Academic programs > Civil engineering
In the field of Civil Engineering, the Ecoles des Mines Group offers a program at Master's and doctorate level.
The objective of the Civil Engineering training program is to complement the general scientific education acquired in the core syllabus by means of a specialized program in applied sciences, centered on five subject areas:
geotechnics
the materials used in civil engineering, both natural and artificial
calculation methods for construction projects
design and building of construction projects
project management and contracting
Major: Works Management and Supervision
Career opportunities: works manager, technical design engineer, costing engineer, materials engineer in the construction field.
The involvement of working professionals ensures close collaboration with the industrial environment, in order to provide cutting edge scientific training combined with ultramodern methods and techniques.
Major: Construction Engineering
Goal: to provide the students with all the knowledge required to investigate, design and manage a construction project. Engineers may work either within the framework of a single specialty, generally as a consultant engineer, or in a broader, multidisciplinary framework of an engineering company.
Career opportunities: research and consultancy, engineering offices and control offices: structure calculation engineer, project manager.
Major: Management and Exploitation of Natural Resources
Career opportunities: exploitation engineer in the field of quarrying (aggregates, industrial minerals, ornamental rocks). Quarrying is one of the industrial activities at the heart of the civil engineering business. The diversity, degree of qualification and sophistication of techniques ensure numerous engineering career opportunities linked to the exploitation and development of natural mineral resources.
Major: Civil Engineering
Goal: to provide students with the basic theoretical and practical knowledge required to work in one of the activities of Civil Engineering.
Content: The course is organized in three modules: construction materials, soil mechanics, project management and contracting. Each module includes theoretical teaching together with applications to enable the student to acquire the main concepts. The course covers: earthworks, structural stability, the mechanical properties of materials, engineering structures, deep and shallow foundations, structural steel.
Career opportunities: Most graduates start out as works engineers in building and public works companies. Their main role is worksite management (roads or buildings). They then go on to senior management posts or move into the public planning services. Other first-time jobs available include costing engineer and project manager for building and public works service providers or materials suppliers.
Doctoral level course in construction materials.
Main research areas :
Durability of civil engineering materials and structures (Alès, Douai)
Treatment, stabilization and recovery of industrial residues and by-products (Douai)
Formulation of new cement matrix materials (Alès)
