Academic programs > Information and communication sciences and technologies and applied mathematics
The GEM offers a wide range of majors in computer science : design, development and management of computer ystems, , company information systems, networks, computer integrated manufacturing etc..
Graduates find employment in large companies which rely on electronic information systems, companies specialized in computer engineering or consulting agencies
The GEM schools also offer Doctoral studies in this field.
Each major is taught in at least one school and some schools offer several computer science majors.
A- INFORMATION, COMMUNICATION SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGIES
Major: Information Systems Engineering
Goal: to train students to develop the appropriate information system within a company according to its organisation
Major: Information Technology
Goal: to teach broad and comprehensive skills not only in software engineering and the architecture of information systems, but also in artificial intelligence (data processing, knowledge extraction, representation of knowledge, combinatorial optimisation, programming by constraints etc.) as well as image and sound processing.
Major: Information and Communication Systems Technology
Goal: to form engineers in information systems who possess broad and in depth skills thanks to a prolonged training period within a company.
Content: information and communication technologies as well as themes directly related to the industrial/professional world (organisation aspects, human resources).
Major: Information Systems Engineering
Goal: to respond to the needs of companies in the areas of the architecture and integration of computer systems by forming managers capable of defining global solutions which take into account both hardware and software components, technical imperatives (efficiency, adaptability, reliability, safety and so on) within the frame of financial constraints
Major: Information Technology for Decision Making
Goal: to form future managers capable of modeling company problems, solving identified problems, creating and using dashboards and decision making software
Major: Organisation and Management of Information Technologies
Goal: to provide skills in two specific areas - organisation sciences and information technology.
Career opportunities: consultancy, IT services and departments and various types of company head offices.
Major: in Information Systems Engineering
Goal: to form general information systems engineers with the following objectives:
to provide the future engineer with a sound basis in computer science so that he/she may be highly responsive in the continuously changing environment of high-technology
to train the student to be thorough and practised at high-level conception and analysis
to familiarise the student with management tools and tools used for piloting IT projects.
Career Opportunities: design, project management and the architecture of IT solutions adapted to their environment.
Major: Design and Management of Information Systems
Goal: to form general information systems engineers who use their knowledge and general engineering background to find the appropriate solution to an IT problem, in other words the right tools for the right hands. The trained engineer can master the change and development in computer systems, understand the company's information systems and takes into account both the human and technological factors as well as any risks linked to the systems and their evolution.
Major: Bio-informatics
Goal: to provide a sound basis in computer science based on the Majors in Information Systems Engineering and Design and Management of Information Systems within the specialized area of study described under Bio-engineering
Major: Computer Science
Goal: to form engineers specialised in computing (programming software design, consulting software design, information systems for companies).
Major: IT Technologies for Companies
Goal : to provide skills in company management as well as computer science skills
Major: Computer Science R&D
Goal: to provide specialized skills in Web Intelligence, information paths, co-operation and interaction.
Minor: Information Systems Management and Robotics
To those students majoring in Science and Executive Engineering.
B - COMPUTER INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING
Graduates from the different areas of production engineering can find employment in any industry possessing automated production machinery in sectors such as the automobile , mechanical engineering, , agro-food and service industries.
Major: Automation and Production Engineering
Goal: to enable the sudents to acquire and manipulate the necessary methodology, scientific knowledge and concepts to master complex industrial systems design, re-design, piloting and the maintenance.
Major: Computer Integrated Engineering
Goal: to train production engineers with :
understanding of automised production machinery
- sensors, actuators
- production machines (automatons, robots)
- automatism, servomechanisms, networks etc.
- supervision
knowledge in industrial management
a sound basis in simulation and process design.
Major: Control Engineering and Industrial Computer Science
Goal: to train future engineers capable of working on production systems of both goods and services able to dialogue with the specialists concerned (mechanics, electro-technicians...) and lead transdisciplinary projects.
The course concentrates on three areas: modeling and simulation, control and diagnosis, instrumentation and industrial computer science.
Minor: Systems and Control, Process Engineering and Robotics
For students following the Graduate Programme in Science and Engineering.
C - APPLIED MATHEMATICS
This discipline is taught right across the engineering curriculum in all the GEM schools.
Major :Engineering Mathematics and Financial EngineeringGoal: Aimed at students who have a solid basis in mathematics and a certain economic and financial grounding , the goal of this course is to provide skills in evaluating risks, proposing investment strategies and simulating and predicting the outcome of certain events.
Career opportunities: Resulting careers are in the financial world, particularly in multi-national banks and insurance companies.
Above and beyond the general engineering studies provided, Paris offers modules within its Science and Executive Engineering major
The module Geostatistics teaches additional mathematical skills such as statistics, data analysis, signal processing and Fourier analysis to future engineers in earth sciences.
The module Vision and Morphology teaches maths for image processing.
