Groupe des Ecoles des Mines - Energy and process engineering

Why study in GEM ?

Academic programs > Energy and process engineering

The studies in Energy and Process Engineering provided by the Ecoles des Mines Group respond to the needs and interests of the Energy and Processing industries. This sector is vast and varied in the types of industries concerned, the nature of the problems that arise, and the very diversity of these businesses

1- Programs leading to the the "Diplôme d'ingénieur" with a Major in either Energy or Process Engineering

GEM graduates in Energy and Process Engineering must be able to function as project managers for complex and multidisciplinary projects, deal with different teams (including experts in various fields) and coordinate all the phases of the process.
For such a career path communication skills are as important as project management skills. The programs reflect this dual requirement as well as providing in depth knowledge of related sciences, tehniques and technology, and an understanding of the energy and process engineering industry itself..

EMNancy and EMSaint-Etienne

image Major: Energy - Industry (Nancy)
Power and Process Engineering (St Etienne)
Goal: to form engineers in the design and development of machines used to produce energy and to provide an understanding of energy management in the sectors of glass , petrochemical refining, the nuclear industry, the elaboration and treatment of materials, and energy production. The program is focussed on the production and transport of energy as well as the modelling and optimising of industrial processes.

EMNancy

image Major: Energy - Gas technology
Goal: to form engineers destined to work in the natural gas industry. The studies are devoted especially to the production, transport and storage of gas.

image Major: Energy - Motors
Goal: to form engineers in the scientific aspects and techniques in the domain of propulsion, for the automotive, aeronautic and transport industries The program focusses on the mechanisms of transfer and transformation of energy.

EMSaint-Etienne

image Major: Industrial Processes
Goal: to form the engineers in the supervision or control of industrial facilities and implementation in process engineering . The program focusses on the concept of optimising industrial facilities, their security, and their impact on the environment.
Career opportunities: refining, petrochemicals, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, agro-food industry , metallurgy, bio-engineering, etc

image Major: Industrial Process and Management
Goal: to provide skills necessary for the management of a production unit. This program presents the methods and tools of both the conception and management of physical/chemical fabrication processes and an overview of the production operation as a whole.

image Major: Petroleum Production
Goal: to train engineers for work in the fields of oil prospection and the maintenance and management of petroleum refineries. The curriculum focuses on the modelling and optimising of petroleum production, storage, security, and the environment

image Major: Geo-reservoirs et environment
Goal: to form engineers in the prospection and management of water resources. The curriculum deals in particular with Environmental Management and Land Supervision.

EMAlbi

image Major: Pharmaceutical Engineering,
Bio-industries
Eco-industries
Goal: to deepen the students' understanding of Engineering and Industrial Processes

image Major: Energy Engineering
Goal: to form engineers capable of designing, structuring, and implementing energy production or transformation equipment. A special focus is given to the methods of replacing fossil fuels with renewable and non-polluting energy.

EMDouai

image Major: Energy Engineering
Goal: to form engineers in the field of energy production, and its utilization in the residential, public, or industrial sector
Content: The program dispenses the scientific know-how and knowledge indispensable to the complete management of energy transfers and fluids. It reinforces the notion of « Efficient Energy » and the respect for the environment.
Emphasis is placed on practical activities, and on-site experience at energy plants combined with innovative teaching methods.

EMNantes

image Major: Energy Systems Engineering
Goal: to form engineers capable of fulfilling varied functions in the field of Power or Energy Generation , from the design to the supervision of energy conversion facilities. This implies an understanding of economic, environmental, and regulatory forces.
Content: The curriculum  focusses on  the simulation methods and tools., command of industrial processes, cycles, thermodynamic industries and the systems of energy production.

image Major: Nuclear : technologies, safety and environment
Goal: to form engineers capable of fulfilling the needs of the nuclear industry (treatment and storage of radioactive waste, control and the safety of nuclear installations etc.) as well as related areas derived from or related to the supervision of nuclear technology (metrology et industrial controls, medicine, laboratories of instrumentation, environmental sector).
