About the GEM > Graduate school of Albi, Alès, Douai, Nantes
The mission of these Schools is to train engineers and PhDs with a strong technological and business background to meet the developmental needs of industry ( including the service sector) and of private and public Research. These Schools also have as a goal the training and support of entrepreneurs who start up businesses necessary to the development of economic, social, and cultural activities.
The two other fundamental missions of the Ecoles de Mines are on research and economic development. To this effect, the Schools have numerous Laboratories and Incubators at their disposal. These technical installations enable the Schools to innovate, to come up with novel solutions to questions and problems generated in the industrial and economic sectors, to produce new knowledge and competencies, to imagine new applications based on recent scientific discoveries, and to create new activities by giving impetus to the creation of new businesses.

Society in general, and the economic world in particular, is faced with major changes generated especially from:
the globalization of the economy and of exchanges ;
the development of a knowledge-based economy and through it, the increased importance of science and technology ;
the central importance of innovation due to the increased rate of change in all areas (science and technology, individual and collective needs, etc.)
the increase of inter-dependency, and of complex systems
Faced with these changes, the Ecoles des Mines have chosen to respond by producing high-level managers of complex technological systems, and innovative creators of technological businesses.
