France is more than just a country with history, fashion and food. Beyond the traditional successes that have built its reputation, France is a resolutely modern technological country. World famous innovations have demonstrated in the recent past that France has been able to take advantage of the new possibilities offered by technology. The technical and commercial successes of the Ariane rockets and of the Airbus airplanes are clear examples of this, as is the TGV high speed train, which has shortened traveling time in a spectacular way (3 hours from Marseille to Paris... a distance of 500 miles !).
France has been at the origin of one of the most widespread inventions in the world today: the chip card with an unimaginable number of diverse applications ranging from ATM cards to cell phones.
