Research areas

CEMEF ranks as leader in Europe in the field of research on the material forming. Seven research groups are working on themes that are essential for understanding material forming processes, and focus their activities on three axes:
 shaping a material in solid, liquid or semi-solid form means fashioning it with a system of tools.
The first axis is the thermomechanics of forming;
 during its transformation, the material changes under the influence of stresses deformations and heat ranges. The second axis is the relationship between flow, structure and properties;
 significant phenomena occur at the interface between the tool and the material that is being shaped'a
The third axis deals with interface, lubrication, heat transfer, abrasion, to which problems of adhesion are attached'a

Research activities concern all types of materials: metals, polymers and also composites, materials for the food industry, glass, liquid crystals, and involve many industrial applications.
