Research > Industrial Energy Engineering Department

Ecole des Mines de Douai
Research areas

Part of the research developed in the department is upstream of industrial problems and has a prospective orientation. The other part of research is generally conducted within the framework of long-term cooperation contracts dealing with industrial needs. Experimental techniques and modelling are systematically combined in our approach.  The department has two main divisions:

Fluid mechanics and ecological energy solutions:
 computational fluid dynamics
the study of particle take-off and their transport mechanisms,
combustion and the air pollution related to it.

Heat transfer in heat exchangers:
 coupled heat and mass transfer,
the study of convective heat transfer enhancement using passive methods,
identification methods applied to heat transfer.

In addition to research and technology transfer activities, the department regularly conducts surveys on behalf of the DRIRE (Regional Office for Industry, Research and Environment) and ANVAR (National Agency for the Transfer of Research to Industry). It performs tests on specific experimental facilities for validating and/or characterizing  energetic components like heat exchangers. CFD codes are also used for flows validation purposes by modelling complex geometries with or without heat transfer.
