Research areas

Training activities focus on the Second Cycle (student engineers at the École des Mines), the Third Cycle (two DEA s), training for research (Doctorate of ENSMP ) and continuous education. Research work is aimed at understanding the phenomena and processes whereby it is possible to explain and predict the behaviour of materials according to mechanical, thermal and frequently corrosive environments. Such behaviour is the result of their composition but is also largely due to the processes of elaboration, transformation and applied thermo-mechanical processing that our research seeks to optimize. The location at the Évry-Corbeil site of the Société Nationale dÉtude et de Construction de Moteurs dAviation ( SNECMA ) is an indication of its close links with industry. Its activities, however, are not confined to materials for the aeronautical industry but also involve high-performance structural materials (energy, automotive, heavy duty mechanical applications). Materials with special physical and electrical properties are also subjects of study. Much of the training endeavour through research is conducted in collaboration with major industrial groups, although many research efforts also involve SMEs and SMIs.

Research activities are material science at the intersection of the major families of materials and the following themes:
 manufacturing processes related to design, processing and assembly, interfaces and surfaces;
 mechanical behaviour of materials;
 numerical methods and models.
