Research > Mechanics and Material Behavior Department
Scientific researchers work on design and material characterization. They assist the French Administration in the field of pressure vessels integrity and design, and contribute to many industrial studies.
The competence of the staff covers a large domain ; they are able to propose solutions to improve the reliability of materials and structural components.
They propose a best design by taking into account the real geometry of the components, the existing defects and the conditions used during processing,
They determine the behavior of components and specimens : room and high temperature mechanical strength, fatigue life, wear,
They define specific treatments in order to improve the service life of the material : superficial and volume heat treatments, coatings
They indicate solutions to prevent corrosion : specific steels and materials, coatings, influence of the environment, corrosion mechanisms
They propose specific measurement methods to characterize the material properties : element analysis, residual stresses, elastic constants.
